This 43-page color guide was prepared by Population Education and is downloadable and can be freely copied. Population Education is a national program with a strong emphasis on curriculum and professional development for K-12 educators that focuses on human population issues. These activities an be used as a launch pad for student exploration of global demographics and human development. These activities have been designed primarily for the high school social studies classroom but are all interdisciplinary, applying knowledge and skills from mathematics, English language arts, and science.
Population Education developed age-appropriate curricula to complement students’ science and social science instruction about human population trends and their impacts on natural resources, environmental quality and human well-being. They provide hands-on training to 12,000+ teachers and student teachers annually in North America. Tens of thousands of teachers are introducing important population concepts to their students using these outstanding resources and millions of students are benefiting from them.
With an emphasis on hands-on learning and balanced discussion of different viewpoints, their programs have earned a reputation for educational excellence. All Population Education curriculum materials are classroom-tested, rigorously evaluated and frequently updated to be leaders in their content and approach. They are interdisciplinary, well-suited for a cooperative learning environment and classroom-ready. All of the materials are matched to current national and state academic standards and frameworks. Workshops for teachers are held nationwide at public and private schools, educator conferences, non-formal education sites and on university campuses.
