Lenz 1964 Map of Population
This is Russell H. Lenz's 1964 Map of Population Density.
It is a Blue & White image that is coded by country, based on 1960's data. It is coded by various shades of blue (Density of less than 2 people per square mile, 2-25 people per square mile, 25-250 people per square mile, and over 250 people per square mile. The image includes three insets at the bottom: (1) a histogram of total population by continent, (2) a graph showing 20 centuries of world population, and (3) a graph showing growth of world population by continent.
It is a great historical snapshot for comparison to the data in the ODT population map: the ODT Population map of 2005, and the newest ODT Population map of 2015.
The art work & lettering are done in the classic "Lenz" style, with pen and ink -- however, you do not get the topographic relief in Lenz's classic stippling style with many of his other maps. It is one of a series of 10 maps created for World Eagle publishing in 1964, and the image was also later published in the Christian Science Monitor.
