Lenz 1964 Map of Ideological & Political Orientation
This is Russell H. Lenz's 1964 Map of Ideological & Political Orientation.
It is a B&W image that is coded by country, based on 1960's perceptions, including 3 types of Communism and includes non-aligned countries showing those "left-leaning," right-leaning," and "uncommitted." A great historical snapshot for comparison to the data in the Peters World Atlas ( 2010), also available from ODT.
The art work & lettering are done in the classic "Lenz" style, with pen and ink -- however, you do not get the topographic relief in Lenz's classic stippling style with many of his other maps. It is one of a series of 10 maps created for World Eagle publishing in 1964, and the image was also later published in the Christian Science Monitor.
