This is Russell H. Lenz's 1964 Map of Literacy.
It is a B&W image that is coded by country, based on 1960's UN data. It breaks out percentages of people that can read and write (0-20%, 20-50%, 50-80%, 80-90% and 90-100%). A great historical snapshot for comparison to the data in the Peters World Atlas ( 2010), also available from ODT.

The art work & lettering  are done in the classic "Lenz" style, with pen and ink -- however, you do not get the topographic relief in Lenz's classic stippling style with many of his other maps. It is one of a series of 10 maps created for World Eagle publishing in 1964, and the image was also later published in the Christian Science Monitor

This is a 150-DPI image that you can download for $1. This charge is for personal use only and you must contact ODT, Inc. for licensing permission to reprint the image or use it in any commercial or classroom application.  To request production rights or order a hardcopy map, go HERE.

For a custom printed at up to 12 feet wide, the cost is $100 @ linear foot of map. You can also rder the $100 option for licensing (reprinting in a publication, or duplication rights for an institution), and we will email you a PDF file and letter of permission.
